When you are in recovery, you have to take things one day at a time. When you wake up, you have to think that today is going to be a good day. But in addition to just thinking it, there are steps and actions you can take to help maximize the chances of your day being a good one. Aside from surrendering to your higher power, here are four tips that can help to make your day a great one.
Take Care of Yourself
It may sound simple, but one of the best ways to have a good day is to take care of yourself. Get plenty of sleep the night before. Eat healthy foods. Go for a walk or a run. And drink plenty of water. Take in a 12-step meeting. When you take care of yourself, you feel better, which in turn, can help to improve your mood and help you have a great day.
Distance Yourself from Negativity
Being around negative people can drag you down. Listening to them constantly complain about others gets tiring or hearing their opinions on your life can be insulting. If someone is negatively affecting your mood, they are too negative for you. Cut them out of your life and your life should instantly get better. Distancing yourself from the negativity can help to brighten your day.
Set a Plan for the Day
Planning out your day and making a list may not sound like a way to ensure you have a great day, but it can help. When you take the time to plan your day first thing in the morning, you help to prepare yourself for what is to come and you help to make sure you don’t forget about anything. Morning meditation and prayer along with this can help to keep you in a good mood and make all the difference.
Do Something Nice for Yourself
The last way to have a great day is to do something nice for yourself. Buy those flowers at the grocery store to brighten up your kitchen or pay yourself a compliment when you are getting ready for your day. Tell yourself you are amazing. Doing something nice for yourself creates a positive environment and helps you to feel better about yourself, both of which can improve your day.
