Memorial Day weekend is the kick-off to summer. Many people spend time outdoors with family and friends, soaking up the nice weather. Enjoy cold, refreshing beverages is often customary. If you are in recovery, you will want to avoid alcohol. But great tasting drinks don’t always have to include booze. Here are three tasty summer mocktails you may want to try this Memorial Day weekend.

Virgin Watermelon Margarita

A virgin watermelon margarita can be a tasty treat on a warm summer day. Cut up and puree a medium watermelon to create four cups of watermelon juice. Add 1/2 cup of fresh lime juice, four teaspoons of agave and five tablespoons of sparkling water. If desired, you can drink as is or serve it over ice, also referred to as on the rocks. You can dip the rim of the cup into sugar or salt for a more professional look.

Lavender Lemonade

Lemonade is a sweet drink that is commonly associated with the summer months. If you are hosting a party or get-together, you can make lavender lemonade, which is a fun and classy play on traditional lemonade. Crush 5 tablespoons of dried lavender. Boil six cups of water with 1/2 cup of light-colored honey. Add the lavender in when the water is boiling and remove the pot from the heat. Cover it and refrigerate it for two hours, allowing the lavender to steep into the mixture. After two hours, strain the liquid to remove lavender parts. Stir in one cup of fresh strained lemon juice to complete your lavender lemonade. If desired, you can garnish the drink with a stem of fresh lavender.

Coconut, Cucumber, Lime, and Mint Cooler

Coconut, cucumber, lime and mint are all flavors that work well together and can instantly make you feel like you are at a tropical destination. This is an easy drink to make, that has a tropical and refreshing taste to it. Slice two cucumbers very thinly. Combine four cups of coconut water, the thinly sliced cucumbers, 1/2 cup of lime juice and 1/4 cup of chopped mint leaves. If you prefer sweeter drinks, you can add in 1/4 cup of sugar to make the drink a bit more sweet. Allow the drink to chill for two hours in the fridge before serving. If desired, you can garnish with a mint leaf.
