Tasty Treats That Will Make a Big Splash at Your July 4th Event

Summertime is a fun time, and the 4th of July is the perfect opportunity to celebrate togetherness and freedom. This summer, you will be the hit of the party when you show up with these delicious recipes. From light and delicious food to colorful and refreshing drinks, you are sure to find something to enjoy in these recipes.

Mix It Up with Chips and Dip

Crunchy chips paired with spicy, smooth and cool dips are a great way to share your cooking talents with friends and family. Fresh tomato salsa and guacamole are easy to make and are super portable, too! For the salsa, roast 1/2 cup of cherry tomatoes, 1 seeded jalapeno, and 1/2 cup white onion at 400 degrees for 15 minutes or until slightly charred. Blend or process the below ingredients until chopped, being careful not to overmix.

  • Roasted veggies
  • 1 can whole, peeled tomatoes
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • Juice from 1/2 lime
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon each salt and black pepper

Guacamole recipes are easy, too! Chop together 2 ripe avocados, salt and lemon juice to taste, 2 tbsp tightly minced onion and a touch of cilantro. These fresh and tasty dips will get you and your friends in the mood for summer instantly!

Red White and Blue Salad – Watermelon, Blueberry, & Feta

Sweet and juicy watermelon pairs beautifully with salty feta cheese! Blueberries add an extra bite of sweetness and a pop of color. Drizzle the whole thing with honey lime vinaigrette and enjoy your refreshing Watermelon, Blueberry and Feta Salad!

  • 6 c. cubed watermelon
  • 2 c. fresh blueberries
  • 1 c. feta cheese crumbled
  • 2 T. fresh mint, or basil, chiffonade
  • 2 T. fresh lime juice
  • 1 T. fresh lemon juice
  • 3 T. olive oil
  • 1 T. honey
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Add cubed watermelon, blueberries, feta, and mint (or basil) to a large bowl.

In a separate small bowl, add lime juice, lemon juice, olive oil, honey, salt and pepper. Whisk until blended. Add more salt and pepper to taste. Just before serving toss fruit and cheese together. Drizzle with dressing and toss again to coat fruit with dressing. Serve immediately.

No Party is Complete Without a Flag

Sure, chips are delish, but no 4th of July party is ever complete without a dessert or a flag to celebrate our freedom. Why not combine the two for a whole new level of party perfection? This fruit-laden flag starts out with a brownie base, so you’re getting a sweet, light and tangy hit with each bite.

Start with a boxed brownie mix (or two, for a large flag!) and make or buy some white frosting. Cool Whip is also a good option for the white parts of the flag if you’d like a lighter flavor, while cream cheese frosting is a great homemade option if you feel ambitious. Make the brownies in a 9×13 pan that has been lined with aluminum foil according to box directions and allow them to cool. Then, create your flag by topping the completely cool brownies with white frosting or Cool Whip and then alternating sliced strawberries and blueberries for a patriotic treat.

Staying sober during the summer holidays doesn’t have to be a drag! These bright and tasty treats will help you keep your promises and enjoy every moment of the day with friends and family.
