Congratulations…and welcome to 2018…You made it!! It’s a new year, and for many people, it is a period of self-reflection and an opportunity to set goals for the future. If you are currently in recovery from addiction or clean and sober, you have a lot to reflect on, to be proud of and look forward to in the new year. But for many people, especially those in recovery, looking at the past year can be challenging. Here are a few tips on how to love yourself and be proud in the new year.
Forgive Your Past and Your Mistakes
One of the best ways to love yourself and make yourself happy is to forgive your past mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes in their life. This is how we learn and grow, and at this point, there is nothing you can do to change the past. While it may not be the past that you envisioned in your life, it is your past, and you must accept it. Dwelling on it won’t change anything. Forgive your past mistakes and stop letting them bring you down.
Accept Where You Are in Life and How Amazing That Place Is
Once you have accepted your past, accept where you are in life. While it may not be exactly where you want to be, at least it is better than where you were. And that is a fantastic accomplishment. Do not focus on the negative. Instead, focus on the positive and what an amazing job you are doing every day to stay in recovery and move forward in your life. After all, acceptance is the answer.
Form Loving and Healthy Relationships
The last tip for loving yourself is to form loving and healthy relationships. When you are surrounded by people who are positive and healthy for you, you feel better about yourself and make better decisions. You deserve to be happy and have happy, healthy, loving relationships.
When you are in recovery, you have a lot to be proud of as you look back at the recent choices you have made to get healthy and as you look forward to the future.
