1. Consider Signing Up for an Online Therapy Session
Your current therapist may already offer online therapy. Alternatively, you may be able to find a therapist online. There are many e-therapy services available today that give you the full experience of therapy via video or text.
2. Focus on What You Can Control
Stress often arises because you don’t know what to do or you feel as though there’s nothing that you can do. Focus on the things you can control. You may not be able to go to work, but you can focus on getting new certifications or training. You can also attend on-line 12-step Zoom meetings. 3. Start a Journal
A journal can help you vent and explore issues that you’re currently dealing with. You can reflect upon this journal later, and chart out your emotions. 4. Get Some Exercise
Exercise is known to help with stress. Not only will it help you sleep better and physically feel better, but it’ll give you an outlet. Most people are still allowed to take a walk in their areas during quarantine or even go hiking. Being out in nature can help you “reset” and gives you some time to think about your experiences. Ten to 15 minute walks are very helpful in clearing your mind with new perspective.
Sometimes distraction is all someone needs. Consider a new hobby, whether it’s putting together puzzles, wood-working, painting or crochet. Something that you can do with your hands will give you a tangible sense of accomplishment, and it’ll give you something to focus on when you feel stressed out. Cooking is an excellent hobby that many are picking up now, as is gardening.
6. Practice Grounding Techniques
If you find that your anxiety is becoming overwhelming, start to focus on the things around you. This can ground you in the present and prevent panic. General CBT techniques, mindfulness techniques, and grounding techniques can help. Ask your therapist for more information. There’s a benefit to isolating: It’s easier to stay away from your old vices, because you’re not supposed to be going anywhere at all.
